Funeral services for Marian Louise Bangert, 82, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake. The Rev. Wendy Anderson will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Marian died on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Marian Louise Bangert was born on Jan. 2, 1927, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Milton F. and Jesse M. (Walker) Stephan. She grew up in Pickerel Lake Township, rural Albert Lea. Marian graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1944. Following high school she moved to Minneapolis and went to work for Honeywell, manufacturing autopilots for military aircraft. After the war, she moved back to Albert Lea and attended college, obtaining her teacher’s certificate in primary education. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake.
On June 6, 1947, Marian was married to Frederick “Fritz” Bangert and they settled on the family farm in Pickerel Lake Township where Marian grew up. They farmed together until Fritz’s death in 1978. Marian then went back to school at Austin Technical College and graduated in 1980 as an LPN. She worked for St. John’s Lutheran Home until retiring in 1992. She continued as a caregiver, working part time in home heath until 2005. Marian enjoyed playing golf, dancing and shooting pool with her friends at the Eagles, reading. baking, and sewing.
Survivors include her children: Dianne (Steve) Holland of Albert Lea, Mary Beth (Michael) Jones, of Indianapolis, Ind., Lowell (Paige) Bangert of Albert Lea, and Paul Bangert of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Bruce (Charlene) Holland, Scott (Dorothy) Holland, Brian Holland, Will Jones II, Stephan Jones, Brienne Bangert, Cassie Bangert, Jesse Bangert, Andrea Bangert, and Dylan Bangert; great-grandchildren: Kindra Holland and Makanzie Holland; sister, Lois Lundgren of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz; her sister, Colene Maiden; her parents; and stepfather, Kyle Melick.
