David Stockinger, 76

Funeral services for David J. Stockinger, 76, of Albert Lea, will be held on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Church of St. Theodore. The Rev. Jim Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Columbkille Cemetery, St. Wendel, with military honors accorded. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
David died on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center.
David John Stockinger was born on April 8, 1932, in St. Cloud, the son of Frank and Othelia (Richter) Stockinger. He attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Cathedral High School. David served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Conflict. On Nov. 8, 1955, David was united in marriage to Collette E. Dillenburg in St. Wendel. He was employed by Murphy Motor Freight as a truck driver, and upon his retirement, he drove school bus for 19 years for the Albert Lea Bus Company. David enjoyed playing cards, making latchhook rugs and cutting soup labels for the local schools by his fireplace while watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Collette, Albert Lea; sons: Doug and wife Glorya Stockinger, Sartell, Gordy and wife Terri Stockinger, Byron, Dale Stockinger, Rochester, Alan Stockinger, Rochester, Dan and wife Ute Stockinger, Rochester, and Andy Stockinger, Maple Grove; daughters: Roxy and husband Scott O’Hara, St. Cloud, and Brenda Reese, Monticello; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: John and Denis Stockinger; and great-grandchildren: Preston and Bryce.
