The funeral service for Julia Loretta Peters of Albert Lea will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.
Julia died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center. She was 95 years old.
Julia was born June 14, 1913, at Winsted, N.D., to Joseph and Mary (Zimney) Kulla. She lived in North Dakota for seven years and South Dakota for seven years. Julia was raised at Royalton. She graduated from St. Frances High School at Little Falls, and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in home economics from St. Benedict College, St. Joseph. Julia married Joseph Marshik from 1939 to 1968. They lived at St. Louis Park from 1944 to 1960 and moved to Albert Lea in 1960. After his death she later married Julius Peters from 1970 to 1982. Julia was a very active member of the Council of Catholic Women at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in St. Louis Park. She was an active member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, Albert Lea. She enjoyed crocheting many gifts for the church. Julia also enjoyed cooking. Julia was past president of her high school and college alumni. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and putting puzzles together.
Julia is survived by her two children: son, Joel Marshik and his wife Phyllis of Helena, Mont.; daughter, Judith Marshik of St. Michael; grandchildren: Jeffrey Bisso and his wife Sara of Minneapolis, Joel Bisso of Savannah, Ga., and Dawn Skogsberg and her husband Peter of St. Michael; great grandchildren: Mia Bisso, Madison Skogsberg and Wyatt Skogsberg; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Mary Kulla; husbands: Joseph Marshik and Julius Peters; three sisters: Mary Kulla, Genevieve Kulla and Theresa Reyerson; brothers: John and Joseph Kulla.
