Alpha Brekke, 89

Funeral services for Alpha Theodora Brekke, 89, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at West Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be at West Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alpha died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Alpha Theodora Brekke was born on Sept. 25, 1919, to Lauritz and Gina (Nelson) Peterson in Manchester Township. She grew up in the Manchester area and attended country school. Alpha was united in marriage to Selmer Brekke in Hartland. She enjoyed being a housewife on the farm and also enjoyed gardening and yard work. Alpha was a member of West Freeborn Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid, Mission Circle and taught Sunday school. Her favorite pastimes where sewing and quilting.
Survivors include her sons: Larry Brekke, and Dale (Kathy) Brekke; grandchildren: Stephanie (Eric) Welles, Robert (Deanna) Brekke, Pam (Ray) Folven, Shanda (Doug) Meyer, and Travis (Norena) Brekke; great-grandchildren: Allyce Brekke, Samantha Folven, Wesley Brekke, Jonathan Folven, and Nathanial Folven; great-grandchildren: Charley and Pacey Brekke, Megan and Bowen Welles; many nieces and nephews.
Alpha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Selmer; daughter, Carolyn Brekke; brothers: Norman, Kenneth and Arville Peterson; sisters: Alice Christenson, Gladys Raimer, Harriet Treuter and Myrtle Bomer.
