Kermit J. Harang, age 88, of Lake Mills, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills, with military rites performed by Lake Mills Otto/Chose Post No. 235.
Memorials may be directed to Arlington Park Fund.
Kermit Joel Harang was born July 18, 1920, in Lake Mills, Iowa, the son of John G. and Clara (Aslakson) Harang. He attended Lake Mills Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1940.
On March 27, 1949, Kermit was united in marriage to Wilma McClain at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Kermit loved his family. He served his country in the Army during WWII. Kermit was a hard worker and held several jobs over the years to support his family. He had worked at the Lake Mills Creamery, held various construction jobs in the Lake Mills area, was a custodian at Lake Mills Community Schools for 16 years, worked at Dave’s Auto Service, formerly Dave’s 66, since 1973. Kermit was one of the founding members of the Lake Mills Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was an active member of the Lake Mills Otto/Chose Post No. 235 and the Leland VFW Post No. 6161. Kermit also was an active member of The Club, Albert Lea, AA.
Kermit is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Wilma Harang; children Robert and special friend, Michelle Brown, all of Lake Mills; Raymond Harang of Thompson, Iowa, Renee (John) Matson of Oldsmar, Fla., Rick (Marlene) Harang of Leland, Iowa and Rod (Sandy) Harang of Lake Mills; grandchildren Kristen (Brad) Holtan, Jenna Harang, Jay (Teri) Clough, Terry (Jen) Harrington, Kim Jensen, Britney Hultman, Shawna Matson, Jillian (Nate) Van Epps, Jordan Harang, Nicole (Tim) Hermanson and Sabrina Roll; great-grandchildren Avery Holtan, Kaden Van Epps and Sierra, Noah and Ava Hermanson; brother Richard (Joan) Harang of Lake Mills; sister Arlene Rauan of Washington; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters; and grandson Josh Matson.
