Funeral services for Lucile Hassler, 91, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Lucile died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Lucile “Toots” Hassler was born on Sept. 8, 1917, to Marinus and Dora Jensen in Albert Lea. She grew up and went to school in Albert Lea. In September of 1938 she was united in marriage to Russell Hassler. The couple made their home in Albert Lea where Russ was employed by Queen Stoves. Toots was a homemaker while raising their three children. After Russ’ sudden death in 1972, Toots went to work as a cook at Brookside School. Toots was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she formerly sang in the choir. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and was very proud of all of them. Toots enjoyed crocheting and crafts. She gave many handmade gifts to her family and friends. Toots also enjoyed coffee time with her friends and neighbors, going out after church with her sister and sister-in-law and helping her friends whenever needed. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lucile is survived by her children: Joanne (Chuck) Helgeson of Little Rock, Ark., Richard (Sue) Hassler of Marshall, Mo., and Sharon (Lee) Carlson of Sun City, Ariz.; grandchildren: John (Kim) Hassler, Kris (Shawn) Rieth, Sarah Foreman, Cheryl (John) Corr, Cynthia (Jamie) Lueders, Carrie (Dennis) Nelms, Grady (Suzanne) Carlson and Kelly Carlson; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Zella Kaasa of Albert Lea and Marge (Jim) Hanson of Prescott, Ariz.; brother, Mervin (Marcy) Jensen of Brainerd; sisters-in-law: Mary Jensen of Albert Lea, Mary Jensen of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Lucille Stachowsky of Milwaukee,Wis., Arlene Hassler of Albert Lea, and Ethel Jensen of Austin; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Lucile was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russ; brothers: Alfred, Clarence, Fred, Harry, and Kenneth Jensen; and sister, Gen Seeger.
