Margaret Helland, 74, of Alden, died Monday, March 30, 2009, at her home in Alden. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. The Rev. Eugene Stenzel will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Alden Cemetery.
Margaret was born Feb. 2, 1935, the daughter of Andrew and Alice (Wanzek) Troska in Wells. She attended St. Casimir’s Catholic School, and graduated from Alden High School in 1953. On April 16, 1955, she married Walter Helland at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells.
Margaret worked at the Alden bank for more than 40 years. She and Wally wintered in Mission, Texas, for nine years. Margaret was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and its Rosary society. She was also a member of the Alden American Legion Auxiliary, Alden Fire Department Auxiliary, Alden Senior Citizens, Alden Lions Club, Red Hat Society, Homemakers Club, Alden Book Club, Tuesday and Thursday Card Clubs, and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Margaret is survived by daughters: Brenda (and husband Ray) Lund of Mankato, and Marilyn (and husband Randall) Miller of New Albany, Ohio; two grandchildren: Lee and Courtney Miller; sister, Helen (and husband Arnold) Skov of Alden; sister and brother-in-law Mabel and Russell Vaale of Austin; sister-in-law Mildred Benson of Evansdale, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2008; her parents, Andrew and Alice Troska; mother and father-in-law, Peder and Lula Helland; brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Verlayne Helland; and great-niece, Nicole Majerus.
