Paul Helgeson, 61

Paul Kurtis Helgeson, 61 of Lake Mills, Iowa, died April 5, 2009, at his residence in Lake Mills.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with the Rev. David E. Jordon officiating. Inurnment will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills, with military honors conducted by the Otto/Chose Post 235. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Paul Kurtis Helgeson was born July 17, 1947, in Albert Lea, the son of Kurtis and Verna (Peterson) Helgeson. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Paul attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1965. He attended Mankato State University in Mankato, and then attended the Americana Beauty School in Des Moines, Iowa. Paul worked in Albert Lea as a beautician.
In 1967, Paul was drafted into the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, and was also stationed in Heidelburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1973. Paul moved back to the Lake Mills area and was an active member of the Otto/Chose American Legion Post 235.
Survivors include his mother, Verna Helgeson of Lake Mills; children and their spouses: Tammy (Charlie) Loncorich of Hutchinson, Kurt (Ricky Lynn) Helgeson of Mannington, W.Va., Hilary (Brad Sorum) Helgeson of Owatonna, and Kellie (Tom) Abrego of Albert Lea; nine grandchildren: Brittany and Brooke Loncorich, Christian and Autumn Helgeson, Ashton and Aniston Sorum, Skylar, Alexcia, and Arieanna Abrego; his brothers: Bruce (Connie) Helgeson and Gary (Linda) Helgeson, and sister Judy (Steve) Eidness, all of Lake Mills; grandmother, Bernice Peterson of Lake Mills; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Kurtis Helgeson.
