Workers at the food-processing plant in St. Charles that was destroyed by fire are worried about what will happen to about 250 jobs.

Patrick Thesing, the co-owner of the North Star Foods, said the plant is a total loss. He said the company doesn’t know if it will rebuild the plant in St. Charles or in another town.

The fire started Friday and quickly consumed the plant, forcing authorities to temporarily evacuate the town’s 3,600 residents. Firefighters extinguished the blaze Saturday morning, allowing residents to return to town. Officials are still investigating what caused the fire.
