Beatles tribute is back by popular demand

They are back by popular demand.

The Rooftop Band returns to the Lighthouse Event Center for two encore performances of “Come Together for Songs of the Beatles” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Two generations after the Beatles performed their last concert, the Rooftop Band recreates the magical times and music with their tribute to the Beatles.

Darryl Amundson plays bass and performs vocals. Jamie Kyllo plays bass and Merle Krause plays drums. Peter Jacobs plays piano and keyboards. Brandon Krause and Jeff Hanson will perform on guitar and contribute vocals. Sam Hastings will add his own guitar licks.

Tickets for the “Come Together for Songs of the Beatles” concert by the Rooftop Band are available at Tone Music in Albert Lea. They are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

The Lighthouse Event Center is at 638 Marshall St., Albert Lea.

Friday, May 29

The Bonnie Broitzman, Steve Tubbs, Chris Charlson and Dustin DeBoer exhibits will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday, May 30

The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.

The Bonnie Broitzman, Steve Tubbs, Chris Charlson and Dustin DeBoer exhibits will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public is invited to learn the basics of geocaching and the operation basics of GPS units at Myre-Big Island State Park at 2 p.m. People of all ages can discover how to take waypoints and navigate to or from a point within the park, learn about the Minnesota Parks and Trails Geocaching Safari and enjoy one of Minnesota’s natural recreational opportunities right in your backyard. The program will run for about 60 to 90 minutes and is free and open to the public. A state park vehicle permit is required on all vehicles that enter the park and can be purchased at the park office. For information, call the park office at 379-3403.

Sunday, May 31

Daybreakers Kiwanis will host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club, 142 N. Broadway. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger. Proceeds will benefit area youth mission trips.

The Sons of Norway Lodge will hold a Norwegian rolled pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lodge near the City Arena. Rolled pancakes, scrambled eggs, parslied potatoes, ham, lingonberries, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

The Mount Carmel Trio will perform at 7 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church Sanctuary, 301 W. Clark St., Albert Lea. Jane Schuneman, violin, Sonja Hinderlie, cello, and Kay Hoffland, piano, began playing together in 1992. Each summer they prepare a new program of music and present several concerts as well as playing for worship services, weddings, senior residences and other special events. The trio is in residence at Mount Carmel Ministries on Lake Carlos in Alexandria.
