Community band concert, breakfast top weekend events

Joey & Rory will perform a free concert at the Big Wheel Bar at Diamond Jo Casino at 9 p.m. Saturday.

Joey & Rory started performing as a duo for the audition of CMT’s series, “Can You Duet” in 2008.

Their album, “Life of a Song,” debuted at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart. The first single, “Cheater Cheater,” reached the Top 30.

The couple is featured as the focus of a nationwide ad campaign Overstock.com.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, May 22

The Bonnie Broitzman, Steve Tubbs, Chris Charlson and Dustin DeBoer exhibits will be open at the Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday, May 23

Two Albert Lea High School ninth-graders, Ashley Christenson and Sami Klapperick, will host a garage sale to benefit the Humane Society of Freeborn County from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1204 Garfield Ave.

The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.

The Bonnie Broitzman, Steve Tubbs, Chris Charlson and Dustin DeBoer exhibits will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Albert Lea Community Band will give a concert at 1 p.m. in center court of Northbridge Mall.

Sunday, May 24

American Legion Post 56, 142 N. Broadway Ave., will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.
