The season came to a stunning end for the Glenville-Emmons softball team Thursday after its 15-13 loss to Faribault Academies in the opening round of the 1A west subsection playoffs in Austin.
The No. 8 seed Wolverines fell behind 7-0 after the top of the third inning, but were able to cut the deficit to two with a five-run third.
The two teams traded three runs in the middle innings before the No. 9 seed Cardinals scored four in the top of the seventh that seemingly put the game out of reach as they took a 15-8 lead.
But Glenville-Emmons rallied for five runs in the seventh as it nearly completed the comeback.
Alayna Hall drove in four runs and finished 4-for-5 on the day.
Kailey Davis went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Megan Rasmussen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Danielle Cooper finished 3-for-4.
Six Wolverine errors early in the game proved the difference as Faribault Academies scored just nine earned runs.
Glenville-Emmons also stranded nine runners.
