Beth Gullikson

Beth Gullikson, age 90, of Bricelyn, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Ed Nieman will officiate and burial will be in the Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery, Seely Township, Faribault County.
Beth Gullikson was born April 4, 1919, the daughter of John and Ethel (Porteous) Crerar in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. She attended school and business college in Canada and had worked for a rock crushing company, seed company and was employed in a rationing office in 1940, during the war. She was married in July 1946 to Merrill Westerlund, and they moved to Bricelyn in August of 1946. Over the years, she worked for the railroad, in a café, a grocery store and later a drive-in. In 1967, she and Merrill bought a grocery store. After Merrill’s death in June 1968, Beth continued as the owner and operator of the store until her retirement in 1985. On Oct. 12, 1973, she was united in marriage to Marvin Gullikson in Bricelyn. The couple enjoyed vacationing in Florida and Arizona.
Beth is survived by her brother: Doug (wife Angie) Crerar of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, son: Glenn (wife Linda) Gullikson of Bricelyn, one grandson: Brian (wife Amy) Gullikson of Eagan; brother-in-law: Ed Talboom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Merrill (1968) and Marvin (2000), siblings: Roy Crerar, Dorothy Penson, Percy Crerar, Merle Vince, Harold Crerar, Edna Talboom and Robert Crerar in infancy; daughter-in-law: Mary Jane Gullikson in 2000, son Lowell (2005).
