Harold Schirmer

Harold Edward Schirmer, age 88, of Wells, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 15, 2009, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in rural Minnesota Lake.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 14 from 2 to 5 p.m at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The Rev. Donald Kain will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Harold E. Schirmer was born Dec. 11, 1920, the son of Edward and Hulda (Grunzke) Schirmer in Minnesota Lake Township in Faribault County. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Schubbe at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mapleton on Oct. 29, 1941. Harold and Betty farmed in Faribault County until 1988. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s UCC, and for many years was on the Church Board and the Elevator Board. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and dancing. He liked spending time with his friends at the Bairs Den in Minnesota Lake.
Harold is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Schirmer of Minnesota Lake, one daughter: Diane (Richard) Staloch of Minnesota Lake, 6 grandchildren: Jodie (Bruce) Drager of Mankato, Darin (Cathi) Schirmer of Minnesota Lake, Leslie Nelson of Albert Lea, Chris (Amy) Staloch of Blooming Prairie, Casey (Jenny) Staloch of Albert Lea, Colby (Lindsey) Staloch of Mankato; eight great-grandchildren: Mackenzie and Michael Drager, Meghan, Madison and Mason Schirmer, Justine Nelson, Owen Staloch and Gabe Staloch; one sister Margaret Detjen of Owatonna, and a daughter-in-law: Cathy (George) Pluym of Mapleton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Duane Schirmer and brother-in-law: Wilmar Detjen.
