Albert Lea’s Leo Carey American Legion Post 56 will be sponsoring a special Honor Flight Network benefit supper on Friday, June 26, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the post location at 142 N. Broadway Ave.
The cost for the burger basket with condiments will be $7 with proceeds after expenses going to the Honor Flight Network.
Post commander Dave Mullenbach commented that “Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s (World War II) veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials. Honor Flight Network is our way of paying a small tribute to those who gave so much — a memorable, safe, and rewarding tour of honor!”
On May 2, a group of 16 World War II veterans from Albert Lea and three from Glenville went to Washington, D.C., as a part of the Southeastern Minnesota Honor Flight. A second trip for 2009 from The Rochester airport is being planned for October.
