No wake zone is in effect for Fountain Lake

Because of high water on Fountain Lake, a no-wake zone has been implemented until further notice.

Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office water-patrol deputy Matt Levorson said boat waves during high water can cause shoreline damage, can pull shore debris onto the water and can damage boat equipment at docks and lifts around the lake.

Practice for the Bayside Skiers has been canceled for tonight.

Levorson said boats can move on Fountain Lake at near-idle speeds, “as long as the watercraft isn’t making a large wake.”

He suggests boat owners crank up their lifts. Sometimes waves during high waters can lift a boat of its lift. He said debris on the water also can damage boaters, skiers and swimmers.

He said he will let residents know as soon as possible when the no-wake zone is lifted.
