The Albert Lea Colonels enjoyed a rare, early-inning lead Sunday against New Richland at Hayek Field as they rolled to a 6-1 win against the Reds.
Colonels starter Michael Greibrok limited New Richland to just one run on three hits in five innings of work to pick of the victory and the top of the order provided a boost for the Albert Lea offense.
The Colonels (4-15) scored twice in the first inning when lead off hitter Logan Kortan singled to start the game. Kortan eventually came around to score and Ryan Wangen added an RBI single in the frame.
“We’ve got a little more speed at the top,” said Albert Lea manager Bill Trygstad. “If they can get on the can create a little havoc.”
The Colonels added three runs in the third, two of which came from the bat of Taylor Ignaszewski, who hit a two-run double with the bases loaded to help put Albert Lea up 5-0 early on.
New Richland starter Colton Schlaak lasted just three innings, giving up five runs on four hits and walking three.
Six different Colonel players tallied hits in the game and Devin Kaasa and Casey Woodside also collected RBIs in the game.
Seth Tukua drove in the only Reds run in the fourth inning.
Albert Lea faces Minnesota Lake Tuesday at Hayek Field and travels to Austin Wednesday for a makeup game before the playoffs begin Friday.
