Clara Margadant, 100

Funeral services for Clara H. Margadant, 100, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m Saturday at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. Matt Griggs will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Clara died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Good Samaritan Center.
Clara H. Margadant was born on Aug. 18, 1908, to John and Caroline (Johnson) Hanson in Hartland Township of Freeborn County. She grew up in the Hartland and Manchester area and attended school in Manchester. On May 29, 1938, Clara was united in marriage to James C. Margadant at First Lutheran Church in Hartland. Clara was a homemaker and raised her two children. She was employed at the Freeborn County Home (Good Samaritan Center) for 4 years and from 1961 – 1984 she was the supervisor of housekeeping and laundry at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was a member of the Central Freeborn Lutheran Church and a member of the Sons of Norway. Clara enjoyed flower gardening. Her family especially loved her homemade breads. Clara loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, James F. (Brenda) Margadant of Rapid City, S.D.; grandchildren: James, Lee, Jana and Becky Margadant; and great-grandson, Lucas; her daughter, Carolyn (Orval) Gartner of Mapleton; granddaughter, Brenda (Mike) Clutter; great-grandchildren, Regina and Michael; grandsons: Scott Gartner and Mark (Kara) Gartner; and great-granddaughter, Elayna; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James in November 1969; great-grandson, Colin Clutter; brothers: Helmer, Arthur, Clarence, Peter, Conrad, Walter, Ludwig and William; and sister, Cora Hanson.
