Oriet Grunwald

Funeral services for Oriet M. Grunwald of Ellendale will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 3, at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. The Rev. Arne Halbakken will officiate. Visitation was Thursday evening at the church, and will continue one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale.
Mrs. Grunwald died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the New Richland Care Center. She was 95 years old.
Oriet was born March 15, 1914, in Steele County, the daughter of Henry N. and Clara O. (Anderson) Thompson. She graduated from high school in Ellendale. On Nov. 16, 1938 she was united in marriage to Roy W. Grunwald. They farmed in rural Ellendale where she lived all of her life.
Oriet was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale and was active in the ladies aid, Mission Circle and quilters. She donated many quilts to the New Richland Care Center over the years. Oriet enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and raising her Holstein cattle. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her two grandchildren and great- granddaughter.
Oriet is survived by her daughter, Mary, and husband, Robert Blazek of Kasson; grandchildren: Rick Christensen of Blooming Prairie and Cara and husband Mark Nelson of Kasson; great-granddaughter, Tawni Christensen; brother: James (Mardelyn) Thompson of Ellendale; sisters; Carol Larimore of Blooming Prairie and Ann (Bill) Klemmensen of Ellendale; brothers-in-law, Francis Misgen and Raymond A. Grunwald; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Thompson and Dolores Haug; and many nieces and nephews.
Oriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy; sisters Alene Grunwald and Audrey Misgen; and brother; Henry Thompson.
