Albert Lea Community Theatre announces its 2009-10 season of productions and also auditions for its fall comedy, which opens Oct. 15.

Season tickets brochures and order form will be mailed the last week of August and additional forms will be available at the Albert Lea Public Library, Marion Ross Performing Arts Center lobby and Chamber of Commerce office. Individual tickets will be on sale before each show as well, although season ticket holders save $12 over the regular cost of admission and have first choice of reserved seats.

The season opens with the adult comedy, “Breaking Legs,” written by Tom Dulack and directed by Rory Mattson. The hilarity begins when members of the New Jersey Mafia decide to get into show business by funding a new playwright and trying to play cupid on the side. The cast includes four Mafia-type hoods, an innocent academic professor, and a young woman with sex appeal. Auditions for these roles will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 24 and 25, at the Marion Ross Center, 147 N. Broadway. Dates for the show are Oct. 15-24.

The winter production, directed by Glen Parsons, is the Eugene O’Neill classic “Ah, Wilderness!” This nostalgic and autobiographical look at family life at the turn of the century offers a variety of interesting acting roles and a large cast. It is scheduled for Feb. 11-20.

“The Taffetas,” a musical review, will run April 29-May 8 and is the female counterpart to “Forever Plaid.” Four singing sisters form a quartet and pay tribute to the great music of the ‘50s. “The Taffetas” was conceived by Rick Lewis and will be directed by Rory Mattson.

Meredith Willson’s production of “The Music Man” will be the major musical production of the season and, in a departure from tradition, will be scheduled during the summer, running from July 15-24. The story of instrument salesman Harold Hill, who takes River City by storm, is an all-time favorite. There are many parts for young singers and dancers, band members and college students, as well as the coveted roles of Harold Hill and Marion the Librarian. The show is directed by Austin native Steve Kinney; auditions will be held in May.

In response to requests by theater-goers, ACT is offering Sunday matinees for each production, no increase in ticket prices, more appeal to family entertainment, and a summer production. Community members of all ages are needed to volunteer for a variety of on-stage and back-stage roles.

The Albert Lea Community Theatre Board of Directors includes: President Karen Szymanowski, co-Vice Presidents Terry Fox and Barb Lang, Secretary David Behling and Treasurer Deanne Winegar. Board members are Rory Mattson, Steve Schwartz, Bill Schmitt, Tony Segura, Heather Earl, Marlys Broberg, Matt Greibrok, Rosalie Truax and Bill Buege.
