Editorial: Check out the Relay

If you never have had a chance to go to the Freeborn County Relay for Life, it is impressive. It isn’t a place of sorrow as some might imagine. It isn’t a political or a promotional event. It isn’t the kind of fundraiser that asks you to empty your wallet.
No.
It is joyful. It is happy. It is smiles and friendship and kindness and goodwill. It is a celebration of life, a celebration of beating cancer and a remembrance of those who lost the fight.
You can go and not spend a dime and still be just as accepted as the largest donor.
You don’t have to have been affected by cancer. You don’t have to have had a friend or relative that has been affected. You only need an interest in the well-being of people.
Proceeds from the Relay for Life benefit the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer and support for cancer patients.
The Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. Friday. Yes, it goes overnight, and some stay there all night. But you don’t have to.
Looking for something to make you feel good on a Friday night? Go to the Relay for Life at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.
You’ll be glad you did.
