Albert Lea girls’ soccer pummels Austin

The scoring started early and remained often for the Albert Lea girls’ soccer team Thursday as it pounded Austin 8-0 in Austin.
Mariah Maras got the Tigers (4-2, 1-2 Big Nine) on the board 35 second into the match and assisted on two other goals.
Ariel Christensen recorded three goals while Sydney Overgaard, Brooke Possehl and Katie Williamson all notched their first varsity goals.
Morgan Stadheim also scored in the fifth minute off a corner kick from Maras.
“I was happy we had a variety of scorers,” said Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill.
Barnhill was also pleased with the Tigers’ defense as Albert Lea outshot the Packers 44-2.
The Tigers host the Albert Lea Invitational Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
