Alden-Conger (1-1, 1-1 SMC) vs. Truman (0-2, 0-2 SMC)
Key stats: Michael Bernal 213 yards rushing, 2 TDs on the season
Last year: Alden-Conger 44, Truman 13
RB Bernal had a monster game in the first contest of the season (175 yards, 2 TDs), but was shutdown against Westbrook-Walnut Grove last week in a 28-6 loss. The Knights had just 70 yards in the game. Injuries have hurt Alden-Conger as five players have been nursing injuries.
Glenville-Emmons (1-1 SEC) at LeRoy-Ostrander (0-2, 0-2 SEC)
Key stats: Michael Thofson 351 yards rushing this season; Zack Williamson 17-39 for 234 yards and 4 TDs
Last year: LeRoy-Ostrander 22, G-E 6
The Wolverines finally ended their lengthy losing streak, now they look to prove it wasn’t a fluke. Glenville-Emmons has put together a balanced attack with RB Thofson and QB Williamson. Both have made explosive plays and will continue to try to do so against LeRoy-Ostrander.
Lake Mills (0-3, 0-1 District 2 1A) at Garner-Hayfield (1-2, 0-1 District 2 1A)
Key stats: Jake Brekken 48 total tackles this season; 208 yards rushing
Last year: Garner-Hayfield 28, Lake Mills 21
Turnovers have hurt the Bulldogs in the early going, they had three last week and two the week before. Last week Lake Mills lost 28-13 and could have experienced some let down after a 21-20 loss to Forest City the week before. The Bulldogs could be in store for a close one again, last year’s game went down to the wire as well.
NRHEG (2-0, 1-0 Gopher AA) vs. Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial (0-2, 0-1 Gopher AA)
Key stats: Tyler Firme 8 receptions, 220 yards, 2 TDs on the season
Last year: NRHEG 49, LCWM 7
The Panthers play their homecoming game Friday in New Richland, but this season has been a bit of a departure for years past. NRHEG is 2-0, nothing new there, but it escaped with a 15-14 win over Blooming Prairie and won with eight seconds left in a 19-13 win over Martin County West. The Panthers blew out both opponents last year by a combined score of 90-47 last year.
No. 8 Northwood-Kensett (2-1, 1-0 District 3 A) vs. North Butler (1-2, 0-1 District 3 A)
Key stats: Jayson Olson 214 yards and 2 TDs on the season. Sam Arnold 113 yards rushing on seven carries last week.
Last year: N-K 42, North Butler 6
Olson and Arnold ran the ball hard and combined for 204 yards against Riceville in a 40-7 blowout. Friday is homecoming for the Vikings and another rout may be in the works.
USC (1-1, 0-1 Gopher AA) vs. Martin County West (0-2, 0-1 Gopher AA)
Key stats: USC QB Riley Swearingen 14-32 344 yards, 3 TDs; 132 yards rushing;
Last year: Martin County West 24, USC 0
The Rebels lost 30-12 to G-F-W last week, a team many picked to win the conference. USC still managed 240 yards of offense, 170 came from Swearingen either through the air, 71 yards, or on the ground, 99 yards. Wide receiver Kyle Bauman didn’t catch a ball against G-F-W because of double coverage, the week prior he had three touchdown catches and 99 yards receiving. USC needs his production again.
