A little balance and depth went a long way for the Lake Mills volleyball team Tuesday night in Mason City as the Bulldogs swept Newman Catholic 3-0 for a conference victory.

“We were really diverse tonight which made us look very strong as a team,” said Lake Mills head coach Jim Boehmer.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 25-19 win in the first set and dominated in a 25-6 second set and held on for a 25-23 win in the third.

Josie Brackey led the team with 10 kills while Lindy Pins added nine, Darcy Nelson eight and Amanda Lampman seven.

Boehmer certainly saw flashes of what his inexperienced group is capable of doing in the second set.

“At times we’re right there with some of my better teams,” said Boehmer, whose team moved to 6-2 on the season with its only two losses coming to ranked opponents.
