Design standards don’t seem to help

There is a political saying, “We are from the government and we are here to help you!”
Recently that “help” has included a proposal to raise water and sewer rates to businesses and industry, degrading the appearance and discouraging the practical construction of new business sites with design standards, and finally raising real estate taxes.
Are these the policies that will make our community grow and encourage business and industry to expand and relocate here, creating jobs and retail sales? Or perhaps the recent drive to create new sidewalks will be the “help” that is needed.
What more is on the horizon? I don’t know that we can take much more “help” from our government
