Doubles teams lead Tiger tennis to win

The doubles teams for the Albert Lea girls’ tennis team were a force Monday against Blue Earth in Blue Earth.

The Tigers (7-5) swept the Buccaneers at all three doubles spots en route to a 5-2 victory.

“We were aggressive tonight in the doubles and we need that,” said Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam.

Each doubles match was close but Albert Lea pulled out narrow victories in each.

At No. 1 doubles Erika Blickendefer and Mikaela Pierson won 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 while Amy Bohlen and Jenna Sager held off Blue Earth’s Abby Nimz and Mackenzie Lein 6-4, 6-4. Zoey Hill and Kayla Hartmann completed the sweep for the Tigers with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Autumn Drake and Karleigh Wolf at No. 3 doubles.

Michelle Hartmann picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ciarra Olson at No. 4 singles and Sarah Wenum added a win for Albert Lea at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 match against Blaire Zierke.

The Tigers travel to Owatonna Tuesday and host Faribault Thursday.
