Lost interest in the Minnesota Twins? Well, it’s time to pay attention again.

The Twins are mustering wins, even with injuries, and the lowly Kansas City Royals have been spanking the division-leading Detroit Tigers.

Thank you, Royals. (Except yesterday. What happened?)

And go Twins!

The Twins are 4 1/2 games behind the Detroit Tigers and the two teams compete against each other seven times in the remaining 16 games this year.

As baseball fans know, the fastest way to catch a leader is to beat them in head-to-head games.

Those are going to be exciting games. The Tigers have injuries, too, and are hanging on to their lead for dear life.

The Twins play the Tigers at the Metrodome on Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. The two play each other again at Comerica Park on Sept. 28, 29 and 30.

If the Twins are able to put the screws to the Tigers, they could find themselves in the lead. It’s amazing how Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, his players and the Twins organization are able to take fair-but-not-outstanding teams and end up leading the division at the end of the season or at least be in the running.

If they capture the lead, let’s just hope our Twins defeat the Royals and White Sox in the other games they have to play.
