Best-selling Minnesota novelist William Kent Krueger will bring “Heaven’s Keep,” his newest mystery, to Albert Lea on Tuesday. He will be speaking to the annual meeting of the Friends of the Library at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers.

“Heaven’s Keep,” just released on Sept.1, is the latest book in Krueger’s series about Cork O’Connor, an edgy, introspective and action-oriented PI, usually found in the northwoods of Minnesota. In the new novel, Cork is taken out of Minnesota to an adventure in Wyoming when his wife Jo is lost in a mountain plane crash during a snowstorm. Searching for his wife, he encounters a law officer on the take, Indians with secrets to hide and cold-blooded hit men.

Krueger, winner of four Minnesota Book Awards, introduced Cork O’Connor in his first novel, “Iron Lake,” in 1998. Seven additional mysteries followed. According to the author, his character has grown and changed throughout the series. “He’s lightened up. He mended the rift in his marriage. He put his desire to be an officer of the law behind him, and embraced being a civilian hamburger flipper. Now he’s a PI, but not full time … he’s remained the guy people go to when they’re in trouble.”
