The United Methodist Church will host a leading solo handbell ringer in a concert on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary.
David Allen from Orlando, Fla., will perform along with Cheryl Allen, pianist and singer, and Harriet Dawson, choir chime expert.
David Allen is one of the nation’s leading innovators in solo handbell ringing. He demonstrates a pleasing array of melody, harmony, descant, and countermelodies. He plays three octaves of Malmark English handbells and has performed throughout the United States and Canada.
His wife, Cheryl Allen, provides vocal solos and piano accompaniment.
Dawson, originally a teacher from Lakeville, retired in 2004 to the Gulf Coast of Florida. She has entertained in many states and Mexico and has been invited to perform in Hungary. Dawson performs on a two-octave set of Malmark choir chimes.
The musicians’ repertoire includes favorite hymns, classical, music, novelty solos as well as combining the sounds of handbells, chimes and voice together.
David Allen will also be contributing to the Sunday service at 9 a.m.
The afternoon concert is open to the public and an offering will be taken. A reception will follow the concert.
