The memorial service for Helen Marie Katzung, 82, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jay Dahlvang will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Mansfield Township Cemetery at a later time.
Helen passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Oak Park Place.
Helen Marie Katzung was born on April 28, 1927, to Merton and Olga (Swanson) Bickford in Albert Lea. Helen grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1945. On May 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Raymond M. Katzung at Salem Lutheran Church. Helen was a lifelong active member of Salem Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond; children: Nancy (James) Devine of Plymouth, Brad (Claire) Katzung of Edmond, Okla., and Reid (Karen) Katzung of Mandan, N.D.; grandchildren: Lauren, Jennifer, Melissa and Christopher; step-grandchildren: Tonia and Dannielle; step-great-grandchildren: McKayla, Drew, Luke, Alyssa and Harrison; sisters: Dorothy Zitterow of St. Paul, Joan (John) Edwards of New Richland, and Judy (Gary) Johnson of Ellendale; sisters-in-law: Mary (Paul) Thompson of Albert Lea and Bette (Lowell) Tonding of St. James, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Merton and Olga Bickford; sister, Barbara Christensen; niece, Lori Zitterow; and nephews: Toby Zitterow and Kim Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Oak Park Place and Crossroads Community Hospice for their compassionate care of Helen.
