The Hollandale Harvest Festival will return for the first time since 2006 on Sept. 12.

“We’ve brought back a lot of old Hollandale traditions, and we’ve certainly brought in a lot of new,” said Amy Ogren, one of the organizers.

In the past, the Harvest Fest has been a biennial event, and the event was supposed to be held last year, but wasn’t. However, the Hollandale Mom’s Group is organizing the event, and they’re hoping to make it an annual event, possibly to be held toward the end of September in coming years.

“We are planning to have it be an annual event. We don’t see any reason why every other town has a festival every year, why shouldn’t Hollandale celebrate every year,” Ogren said.

The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast will be held at the fire hall from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Free will donations will be taken at the breakfast and some other events, and some of the proceeds will go to the Hollandale First Responders. During the pancake breakfast, baked goods and handmade crafts will be sold outside the fire hall with the proceeds going to the first responders. More local venders will sells crafts, art and food at the fire hall until 3 p.m.

A car show will be held from 8 a.m. to noon next to the park.

Citywide rummage sales will start at 8 a.m., and the Hollandale Christian School will host a sale starting in the morning.

The Hollandale Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tours.

A tool show will be open at Mr. Machinery Inc. from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and an inventors’ display will be around 4:30 p.m.

A number of events will be aimed toward children. At 10 a.m., there will be a children’s cookie cookoff, followed by children’s games and activities in the park from 1 to 3 p.m. featuring things like face painting, inflatable games, ring toss and potato sack races. A kiddie parade will be held at 3 p.m., followed by an airplane ping pong ball drop at 3:30 p.m. There will a prize table in the park pavilion.

Horse and wagon rides will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by the Heritage Huis Windmill. Venders like Moe Goe’s, Maggio’s Pizza and the Pretzel Whiz will serve food on Main Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then at Mr. Machinery until 8 p.m.

Later in the day, most of the events shift to Mr. Machinery. The Mud Bog will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. All B.S. will perform from 5 to 8 p.m. and then they’ll perform at the street dance from around 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

In the past there has been a full parade and a queen competition, but those events will not return this year. The Harvest Fest schedule listed a softball tournament in Maple Island Friday and Saturday, but that is no longer happening.
