It’s time for Autumn in Village, concerts, more

The Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library and Village will come to life Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. with activities and fun for the whole family at Autumn in the Village.

There will be activities in the country school and an old-fashioned spelling bee in the village. The general store will be open with candy for sale and there will be a blacksmith demonstration. Visitors may purchase photos of themselves in the photography shop with jewelry and hats from the past and see a model dam demonstration. Stop in at the one-chair barbershop or visit the woodworking shop to see foot-powered saws at work. Learn how book binding was done in the past. Make some homemade Christmas ornaments or experience shelling corn the old- fashioned way. There will be demonstrations by the Twilight Treadlers, Simply Sisters (homemadesoap), wagon rides and other activities. Music will be provided throughout the afternoon.

Beef or pork sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, apple pie and ice cream, sarsaparilla, water, coffee, pop, kettle korn and old-fashioned candy will be served.

Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for students 12 to 18 years and members and children 11 and younger will be admitted free.

Friday, Sept. 18

 Northbridge Mall will hold a fall craft show from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 320 W. College St., will hold a bake sale and bazaar from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is $6 per person, and includes vegetable beef soup, sloppy joe, pie and coffee. There will also be a raffle drawing for a star path quilt. Tickets are $5 for one or three for $10. Full-size and baby quilts will be available for purchase, as well as attic treasures and a bake sale.

 The Albert Lea Art Center’s exhibit, “The Art of Quilting,” will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 per person.

 The Pelican Breeze will hold a pizza cruise from 6 to 7:30 pm. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m.; call 383-2630.

 Comedian Taylor Mason will perform at Crossroads Evangelical Free Church at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the church. Call 377-3276 for more information.

Saturday, Sept. 19

 The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon.

 Northbridge Mall will hold a fall craft show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 Grace Christian Church’s Kids’ Church will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at A-Best Sew & Vac at the corner of Main Street and Garfield Ave. Proceeds will be used to purchase T-shirts and for ministry needs.

 The Albert Lea Art Center’s exhibit, “The Art of Quilting,” will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $2 per person.

 Bear Lake Concordia Lutheran Church, 15554 690th Ave., Albert Lea, will hold a salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults, $2 for ages 5 to 10 years ,and children 4 and younger eat free. There will also be a bake sale, garden produce, crafts and afghans and a raffle.

 The Story Lady Doll & Toy Museum will present a program, “All About Puppets,” at 1 p.m. Marianne DePoppe and Pauline Olson are the presenters. Children will make a marionette. There will also be treats and surprises. Cost is $2 for adults and free for children and members.

The Lighthouse Event Center, 638 Marshall St., will hold a tribute to Merle Haggard and Ray Price, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. The talents of Dan Beighley, Jack Beighley, Johnathon Beighley, Merle Krause, Barbara Jean and Neil Lang and Dunnell Lenort will be featured. Tickets are $13 in advance at Tone Music or $15 at the door.

 Community Lutheran Church of Geneva will hold its 100th anniversary celebration. A carnival will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Local musicians will perform from 3 to 5:30 p.m. There will be food for sale from 2 to 9 p.m., including burgers, hot dogs and sodas. An informal worship will be held at 6 p.m. and Monroe Crossing, a bluegrass group, will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $15 in advance (from the church office) or $20 at the door.  Harmony Junction Barbershop Chorus will present “Believe in Yesterday” at 3 and 7 p.m. in the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and younger. Tickets are available at Cup of Faith, Addie’s Floral & Gifts and Doyle’s Hallmark, from chorus members or at the door.

 The Pelican Breeze will hold a public cruise from 4 to 5:30 p.m. No reservations are needed.

 The Alden Lions Club will hold its sixth annual barbecued ribs dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Alden School. Cost is $10 for adults and $4 for ages 5 to 12 years. Children 5 years and younger will get a free hot dog meal.

 Freeborn County Pheasant & Habitat will hold its 34th annual fundraising banquet in the 4-H Building on the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. Social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and include the meal and a chance at one of the 10 grand prizes. Sunday, Sept. 20

The Albert Lea Alano Society, 1005 N. Ulstad Ave., will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. The breakfast includes pancakes, french toast, hashbrowns, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.
