John Dahlum, 57

The funeral service for John A. Dahlum of Myrtle will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Myrtle. The Rev. Krista Stokke will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before service at the church. Interment will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
John died on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea. He was 57 years old.
John was born in Scarville, Iowa, on Dec. 29, 1951, the son of Harry and Sylvia (Fjelstad) Dahlum. He graduated from Glenville High School in 1969. John was married to Frances Oakland on Aug. 4, 1969, at Gordonsville Methodist Church. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He had lived in Freeborn County most of his life.
John had owned Myrtle Trucking and John Boys Bar in Myrtle for 20 years. He worked as a foreman at Deluxe of Lake Mills, Iowa, Berg Corp. of Albert Lea, Nelson Trucking, and Lukes Brothers. He was a member of Sons of American Legion in Glenville.
John was an outdoor person and enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, hunting and ball games. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Frances (Fran) of Myrtle; son, Dean (Lynae) Dahlum and their children Carter, Dawson, Gracie all of Glenville; daughter, Tracy Dahlum (Jamie) of Gordonsville; sisters: Janice Van Ryswyk (Jerry) of Albert Lea and Deb Dahlum Olsen (Marty) of Lyle; brother, Mike Dahlum (Sandy) of Glenville; mother-in-law, Carol Oakland of Northwood, Iowa; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
John was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Lawrence Oakland; nephews: Nicholas Dahlum and Darin Oakland; and brothers-in-law: Peter Oakland and Rick Van Ryswyk.
