Potluck is now open to individuals

Organizers of the Great Vitality Potluck are opening up the event to any person — not just teams — who are interested in submitting a dish that incorporates longevity foods.
The potluck, scheduled for Saturday as part of the AARP/Blue Zones Vitality Project, had previously been advertised for teams; however, organizers are hoping they will have a bigger turnout by inviting individuals to participate as well.
Participants can bring dishes from the following categories: Appetizer, main dish, salad, vegetable and dessert.
All dishes must include an ingredient from the longevity food list. No mayonnaise, canned soup, Jell-O or processed meat is allowed.
Prizes will be awarded in each category, and the best recipes will be printed in an Albert Lea Tribune cookbook and entered in the national AARP online cookbook.
Participants should bring portions for eight to 10 people by 4:45 p.m. the day of the event.
While participants are encouraged to let the Community Development Office know ahead of time if they want to get involved, they are not required to do so, said Public Information Officer Teresa Kauffmann.
The potluck will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Americas Best Value Inn.
The Community Development Office can be reached at 377-4315.
