A 16-year-old Rochester girl has been charged with faking her own kidnapping in a bid to extort $500 from her family.
The girl is charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor. Her next court hearing is Wednesday.
The girl’s younger sister called police Wednesday morning and said her frantic-sounding sister told her she was locked in a basement. The younger girl said her sister claimed she’d be killed if her family didn’t pay $500.
The criminal complaint says the girl told investigators she made up the story because her mother didn’t like her friends and wouldn’t let her go to the school she preferred.
The girl had taken the family car without permission the evening before she disappeared. Her next court hearing is on Wednesday.
