St. John’s Lutheran Home has been selected to participate in the Stratis Health Technical Assistance Group with approximately 40 other Minnesota nursing homes. This group will come together for several learning sessions and hear from experts and their peers, as well as having access to other resources over the next two years.

St. John’s will participate in quality improvement activities and interventions to improve the lives of the people who live in nursing home. Organizational culture change will be at the heart of this work with specific emphasis on improving skin care, reducing pressure ulcers and reducing physical restraints. Successes and best practices from the group will be shared with the Minnesota nursing home community over the next few years.

Scot Spates, CEO and administrator at St. John’s, said that he is excited to be part of this study group. “We are always looking for new and better ways to provide care and services to our residents. Participating in this group is an exciting opportunity to make positive change that will directly benefit the people we serve,” he said.

“CMS has made transformational quality improvement a priority across the country, and this is such exciting work that we are able to continue as the QIO with nursing homes in Minnesota,” said Jane Pederson, M.D., director of medical affairs for Stratis Health. This work is supported by the Federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and is being led by Stratis Health, Minnesota’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization.
