The Albert Lea volleyball team finished third Saturday in Rochester in the John Marshall tournament.
The Tigers won two matches and lost two matches on the afternoon and showed some of the mental toughness head coach Jaime Mauseth has been looking for late in the day.
Albert Lea got by Austin 25-20, 25-22 to start the day, but fell to Kasson-Mantorville 25-18, 25-23 and John Marshall 25-14, 25-19.
The Tigers were matched up with Fairmont to decide third place at the five-team tournament and trailed early in the first set. The Cardinals had a 23-17 lead at one point in the first set, but Albert Lea rallied to tie the game before falling 26-24.
The effort just to tie the game was just the beginning as the Tigers took the next two sets 25-21, 15-12 for the victory.
“At the end of the day and they wanted to win that game against Fairmont,” Mauseth said. “I think they wanted it so bad and they won because of it.”
Albert Lea faces United South Central in Wells Tuesday.
