Two NRHEG runners grab spots in top 5 at NRHEG Invite

Senior Josh Schroeder had a highlight day for the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys’ cross country team Tuesday at the NRHEG Invite with his second place performance at the meet.
Schroeder ran the 5-kilometer event in a time of 18 minutes, 5 seconds and finished behind Loyola’s Joe Goettl, who finished in a time of 17:24.
The Panther boys finished seventh as a team with 139 points. Blooming Prairie won the meet with 58 points and Waterville-Elysian-Morristwon was second with 76 points.
T.J. Schiltz was 27th overall with a time of 19:53 and Tyler Martin came in at 37th overall with a time of 21:10. Andy Kampen placed 48th with his time of 22:18 and Dustin Burshem had a time of 22:34.
Nearly every runner cut time from the previous meet as Martin shaved nearly two minutes from his time and Schiltz cut a minute and a half.
The NRHEG girls’ team took sixth out of eight teams with 122 points, finishing just behind W-E-M, which scored 120 points.
Abby Crabtree led the Panthers with a fourth place finish and a time of 16:42 in the 4-kilometer event.
Alex Hale turned in a time of 19:15, which was good for 25th and Shauntaya Olson was 32nd with a time of 19:41. Emily Habeck was one back of Olson at 33rd and had a time of 19:46. Destinee Meyer rounded the top five for NRHEG with her 37th place finish and time of 20:46.
“I was happy with the home crowd showing up at the meet making it extra special for our athletes,” said Panthers head coach Mike Weber. “With the support we ran some of our best times of the year.”
