Youth in Government open house
Published 8:50 am Wednesday, September 9, 2009
The Albert Lea Family Y will host an informational open house on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Y. Anyone interested in the Youth In Government Model Assembly can drop in and get information about the program and talk to participants from previous years about the experience. This is a drop-in event so families are encouraged to come and go at their convenience. For more information, contact Steve Patten, youth program director, at the Albert Lea Family Y, 373-8228.
The Model Assembly student-led program takes place in January and includes more than 1,300 eighth- through 12th-grade students from around the state. The Model Assembly offers program areas for all interests, including the House of Representatives and Senate, the Court of Appeals, Supreme Court, the executive branch of state government, or as a lobbyist or member of the media. There are opportunities in the radio station, television station and morning and evening newspapers during the Model Assembly weekend. This year’s assembly will be at the Minneapolis Hilton Hotel and State Capital. Eighth- graders participate in the Leadership Corps which is an opportunity to experience each program area offered.
