Anna H. Zak, 87, of Owatonna died Oct. 24, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna with the Rev. John Sauer presiding. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church (810 Cedar Ave. S., Owatonna). A parish rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. at the church on Thursday. The visitation will continue one hour before the funeral liturgy at the church on Friday.
Anna was born the daughter of Rudolph and Magdelyn (Kovar) Halla on Nov. 11, 1921. She attended Owatonna High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1939. Anna was united in marriage to Louie Zak on June 16, 1941 at Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna. They had four children together. The couple made their home in Owatonna for a short time after they were married and later moved to a farm in Freeborn County, just south of Geneva. Anna farmed alongside her husband, Louie, for most of her working years. She also worked for Geneva Meats and Northern Valley. The couple moved back to Owatonna in 1979. Anna and Louie spent much of their retirement enjoying the fishing and serene sunsets at their cabin on French Lake. Anna was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Council of Catholic Women. Her life interests included canning, baking, crocheting, and making doilies. At one point she was known as the “Doily Lady” for generously contributing her beautiful doilies to a variety of charitable organizations.
Anna is survived by her children: Shirley Paulson of Clarks Grove, Dennis (Karen) Zak of Doylestown, Pa., Gary Zak of Albert Lea; son-in-law, Gary Bauldry, also of Albert Lea; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers: Walter (Ethel) Halla, Rudolph (Lucille) Halla and Henry Halla, and two sisters: Magdelyn Klecker and Frances Meyer, all of Owatonna.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband Louie; daughter, Sharon Bauldry; son-in-law, James Paulson; daughter-in-law, Katherine Zak; granddaughter, Billie Scheffers; brother, Richard; and sister, Lucille.
