Bulldogs move onto NIC finals

The Lake Mills volleyball team breezed to a 3-0 start at the North Iowa Conference tournament championship Saturday in West Hancock.

The 12th-ranked Bulldogs got wins over Newman Catholic, North Iowa and West Hancock to move on to the finals of the conference tournament, which begin Monday in West Hancock.

Lake Mills opened the day with a 21-2, 21-13 win over the Eagles where Darcy Nelson led the team with six kills and Morgan Fjelstad had 12 assists.

The Bulldogs drew North Iowa in the second match of the day and delivered a 21-11, 21-9 victory over the Bison.

Nelson again led the team with nine kills and Josie Brackey added six. Fjelstad had 19 assists.

In the final match of the day Lake Mills got past the Knights 21-11, 21-10 with Brackey and Nelson both registering six kills.

The Bulldogs missed just two serves in the match and had nine aces as a team, four coming from Brackey.
