The Albert Lea Tribune does an excellent job at covering the area sports. However, there is one thing missing. I am writing to put a plug in for the Albert Lea Thunder hockey team. Our community should be proud to be the home of a North American Hockey League Junior A team. I understand that there may have been some hard feelings from last year’s team or management. However, this is a new team and a new season. I do not think that this year’s team should take a fall for what happened last year.

Furthermore, there are two former Albert Lea Tigers on the team, which is some positive news for our community. As a parent of one of the players, I have had a firsthand opportunity to get to know some of the team. They are all fine young men who have worked hard to further their hockey careers and some have overcome great adversities to achieve their goals. There could be some great stories to be had by meeting the players and covering the games. At the very least their game schedule could be listed under the prep schedule. The games are a fun and exciting family event. Hope to see you there!
