Editorial: Don’t be fooled by other map sellers

To the Albert Lea area business men and women:
Have you received phone calls asking you to purchase advertising for a map? Were you unsure for which map publisher the solicitor was working?
Sometimes outside-the-area companies time their map sales push concurrently with or even just ahead of the time local organizations ask for advertisers of their maps. This happens across the country. It’s somewhat sneaky, isn’t it?
The Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce creates a map, too. It is a local publication through and through. The Albert Lea Tribune sells it. Church Offset Printing prints it. The dollars stay in our community.
Later in the year, when copies run out at distribution points, because it is local, you can bet supplies are replenished because local people notice it. It’s the local map that reaches the most people. You have to admit, it’s hard to know what’s going on in Albert Lea from Chicago.
Most company leaders in Albert Lea know an Albert Lea Tribune sales representative. Randy Kehr, executive director of the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce wants you to be assured: The Albert Lea Tribune is the only company authorized to solicit advertising for the chamber map. If you get a call from anyone else about a map, it isn’t the chamber map.
Kehr also has some good words about the publication he wrote in a letter to chamber members:
“The Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber Map is one of the chamber’s premiere publications. Thousands of copies will be produced and distributed to chamber members and community outlets throughout the Albert Lea-Freeborn County area. The map is a great way to advertise your business to thousands of people looking to relocate to the area and your fellow chamber members.”
