Genealogical Society to visit church Monday
Published 9:01 am Saturday, October 10, 2009
This month’s meeting of the Freeborn County Genealogical Society on Monday will start at the German Methodist Episcopal Church at 6 p.m. This Methodist congregation started meeting in homes in 1861 and finally built a church in 1873. It is now being refurbished by a group of former members and friends of the church. They almost have it completed. The church is at 71117 180th St. (County Road 17).
Following the presentation on the church, the meeting will move to the Carl and Mary Jane Grandstrand residence at 2411 Island View Drive for a short report about the Nicholas and Robert Ott farm that is now Wildwood Estates. The Ott families were members of this little church with grave sites and stones in the cemetery. The group will have treats and coffee and then proceed with the business meeting. If you are interested in coming to this meeting and are not a member, please call Carl Grandstrand at 373-3340.
