Funeral services for LaJune Martha Sorensen, 94, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Halvorson will officiate. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, rural Oakland. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
LaJune died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
LaJune Martha Sorensen was born on June 15, 1915, to Carl and Martha (Karpa) Ulrich in Malcomb, Iowa. She attended rural elementary schools. On Nov. 28, 1933, LaJune was united in marriage to Orla B. Sorensen in New Richland. In the ’60s she worked as a factory worker in Wells and as a housekeeper at St. John’s Lutheran Home in the ’70s. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. La June was resident of Senior Courts for 17 years and greatly enjoyed her many friends and activities. Her afternoon coffees and conversations with her friends were the highlight of her days. She cherished her friendship with Larry (the Walmart pharmacist) and her wonderful relationship with Sandy Stephens. Dr. Shelhammer and his nurse, Chris, held a well-earned trust and a special place in her heart. She especially enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, playing cards and visiting with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children: Ardis Ryals of Alden, Maj. R. Merle Sorensen of Escondito, Calif., Russell Sorensen of Ten Strike, Karen (Thomas) Hinkley of Clear Lake, Richard (Phyllis) Sorensen of Phoenix, Ariz., Jane (Rodney) Michaelson of Alden and Orlene (Gary) Rechtzigel of Bovey; 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Gen Stoltz, Pearl Homolka and Marion (Frank) MacDaniel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
LaJune was preceded in death by her husband, Orla Sorensen; parents, Carl and Martha Ulrich; grandsons: Darby Sorensen and Wayne Hinkley; brother, Gordon Ulrich; sisters: Grace Beavens and Violet (Beavens) Clausen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lesley Beavens, Elsie Ulrich, Harley Beavens, Herb Clausen, Eloise and George Nietzel, Fred Stoltz, Melvin and Bertha Vogelsang, Art Truelson and Dave Homolka.
LaJune will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
