Funeral services for R. Howard Boverhuis, 76, of Clarks Grove will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove. The Rev. Roger Davies will officiate. Interment will be at Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Howard died unexpectedly of a heart attack, Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at his home.
Reinder Howard Boverhuis was born on March 16, 1933, to Reinder and Louise (DeBoer) Boverhuis in Platte, S.D. Howard grew up in South Dakota and Hollandale where he attended school. On June 18, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marian Underdahl at Moscow Lutheran Church. The couple made their home and raised their family in Clarks Grove and Howard retired after many years from Ravenhorst Concrete. He was a member of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church and a family member of First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove. Howard served on the Clarks Grove volunteer Fire Department for 27 years. He enjoyed woodworking, playing golf, spending time with his family, taking trips to Branson and having coffee and visiting with his friends. 
Survivors include his children: Russ and wife Terri Boverhuis of Bloomington, Dale and wife Cheryl Boverhuis of Geneva, Cindy and husband Stan Nelson of Clarks Grove, Maribeth and husband Shawn Walton of Albert Lea, and Shelly and husband Bryan Edwards of Lake George; grandchildren: Tony and wife Kristi, Travis, and Katie Boverhuis, DJ and wife Suzanne, Jana, Blaine and Cody Boverhuis, Jeremy “Buck” and wife Angie, Michelle and Michael Nelson, Cheyenne, Isaac, Ashley, Kelsey, Mark and Morgan Walton, Beau and wife Sara, Joshua and wife Megan, and Lacey Edwards; great-grandchildren: Kolby, Olivia, Owen, Gavin, Emery, Korah, Adylan, Ezra, and Liam; brothers and sisters: Harold and Jean Boverhuis of Lansing, Ralph and Pat Boverhuis of Appleton, Wis., Paul and Jen Eekhoff of Kanawha, Iowa, Dean and Grace Bos of Hollandale, Terri and Kim Weeks of Hollandale, and Marlene Passow of Austin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Curt and Shirley Underdahl of Austin and Hazel and Floyd Hansen of Hayward; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents: Reinder and Louise Boverhuis; wife, Marian; brother, Bernard; and mother and father-in-law, Kermit and Minnie Underdahl.
