On Oct. 8, representatives of Pearson Publishing of Owatonna came to Hawthorne Elementary and read to kindergarten students. This initiative was part of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record Campaign. Jumpstart has provided more than 500,000 books nationwide since 2006  to children and families to raise the importance of literacy. Every child received a limited edition hard cover copy of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and a packet full of activities that they could complete at home with their family.
