Glenville-Emmons recovered from a rough start to its game with Spring Grove Friday, but couldn’t contain the Lions during the second and third quarters in a 34-14 loss in Spring Grove.

The Wolverines (2-4, 2-4 SEC) fumbled on their initial drive and the Lions (3-3, 3-3 SEC) recovered. Cody Colsch scored on a 1-yard run to take a 7-0 lead 4 minutes into the game.

Glenville-Emmons came back later in the quarter when Zack Williamson hooked up with Tyler Woodside for a 40-yard touchdown reception, but after a failed two conversion Spring Grove led 7-6.

The Wolverine offense never had the same look as the Lions pressured Williamson for the duration of the game and stopped the Glenville-Emmons running game. Williamson completed just two of his 14 passes and Michael Thofson rushed for 70 yards on 20 carries.

“Our offensive line struggled, which surprised me because they had a younger defensive line,” Wolverines head coach Derek Nelson said. “It was a disappointing week.”

Spring Grove went on to outscore Glenville-Emmons 28-8 in the final three quarters and the Wolverines had just five first downs in the game.

The Lions used their speed to beat the Glenville-Emmons defense deep down the field during the second and third quarters, which set up two more Colsch touchdowns.

The Wolverines host seventh-ranked Mabel-Canton Wednesday in the second-to-last regular season contest.
