ALHS band members attend regional Honor Band events

In November, five members of the Albert Lea High School Bands attended regional Honor Band events.

The WSU High School Honor Band Festival was held in Winona Nov. 6 and 7. ALHS band members participating were Dayton Snyder (alto saxophone) and Joshua Etherington (trombone).

The WSU High School Honor Band was conducted by Donald Lovejoy, director of Bands at Winona State University. The Honor Band weekend culminated with a final concert held at WSU Performing Arts Center and featured the WSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble as well at the High School Honor Band. More than 100 student musicians from about 35 high schools in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin comprised the Honor Band membership.

On Nov. 14, Emily Stoneking (tenor saxophone), Kayla Swee (trombone), and Talia Barber (euphonium) represented ALHS at the St. Olaf Festival of Bands held at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Guest conductor for the Honor Band was Andrew Mast of the Lawrence University Conservatory of Appleton, Wis. The guest soloist for the concert was Dana Maeda, professor of oboe at St. Olaf.

The final concert featured the Festival Band as well at two St. Olaf College bands: The Norseman Band and the St. Olaf Band. The 160-piece Festival Band was made up of students from over 50 schools from all over Minnesota.
