Clarence Schroeder

Funeral services for Clarence Henry Schroeder, 86, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mansfield Lutheran Church. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Interment will be at Mansfield Cemetery with military honors accorded by area veteran’s organizations. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. 
Clarence died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Clarence Henry Schroeder was born on May 12, 1923, to Henry and Gladys (Gaines) Schroeder in Clark Township. Faribault County.  He was inducted into the United States Army at Fort Snelling in December of 1944 and was deployed to Japan and the Philippine Islands during World War II. Clarence was honorably discharged in November of 1946.  Clarence married Evelyn Pearl (Schmidt) Woyda on Dec. 3, 1958, at Rice Lake United Brethren Church in Wells. They had one son, James Henry, born in 1962.
Clarence worked as a forklift driver at Deluxe in Lake Mills and at Queens in Albert Lea, from which he retired. Clarence also purchased a farm in Mansfield Township in 1960 and farmed until his retirement in 1981, when his son Jim began farming. He was an active member of Mansfield Lutheran Church. Clarence enjoyed fishing, camping, ice fishing, snowmobiling, numerous sight seeing and fishing trips, dancing, woodworking, building bird houses and of course his farm, gardens and flower beds. In his later years, he decided to take up deer hunting and enjoyed wintering a few months each year in Pharr, Texas, with his friend Helen.
Survivors include his son, James (Carol) Schroeder of rural Alden; step-daughter-in-law, Thelma Woyda of Wells; step son-in-law, Mike Gleason of Denver, Colo.; friend, Helen Christensen of Albert Lea; sister, Jeanette (Manville) Wigern of Walters; brother-in-law, Tom Bloomingdale of LeClaire, Iowa; sister-in-law, Evelyn Schmidt of Charles City, Iowa; step grandchildren, Rick Woyda of Cleveland, Paul (Kari) Woyda of New Prague, Brian (Pam) Woyda of Hammond, Wis., Brenda Wittmer of Wells Amy Gleason (Robert) Olivas, Chris Gleason, Ryan Gleason, Beau Gleason, all of Denver, Colo., and Aaron (Tonya) Gerber of Thompson, Iowa; several step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn in 1997; brother, Harold in 1986; sister, Eileen Bloomingdale; brothers-in-law, Harvey Schmidt in 1986, and Dale Schmidt; step son, Roger Woyda in 1995; step daughter, Maxine Gleason in 2005; step grandson, Joseph Wittmer in 2007; and step granddaughter, Tamara Woyda in 1959.
Memorials are preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice.
